2019: Waiting & Trusting

waiting-and-trustingDid you know that depending on what version of the Bible you use, the word “wait,” or a form of the word, is found over 140 times in Scripture, and “trust” is found nearly 200 times?! God has a lot to say about both subjects!

As we continue to wait on the Lord and trust Him for His perfect timing in bringing our daughter home, the Lord has laid these words upon our hearts for 2019.

Waiting is rarely easy! I think of my boys as they enthusiastically await Christmas day, or a birthday or family excursion…time just seems to stand still and they can barely contain their excitement. Then on the other side, I think of the agony of anxiously awaiting test results, contemplating the “what ifs” our minds tend to rush to in those moments. As difficult as waiting is, it is not wasted time! The Lord uses every moment we wait to strengthen and grow us to be more like His Son. “Wait on the Lord, be of Good courage, and He will strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14). Waiting draws us to the Bible for our comfort and hope. “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I hope” (Psalm 130:5).

Trusting God is an opportunity to display our faith in Him. “To trust God in the light is nothing, but trust him in the dark–that is faith” (C.H. Spurgeon). We have often felt “in the dark” in this process. Here we are, more than a year into the adoption process, and we still don’t even know what our daughter looks like, her name, where she is or what she’s doing right now. In fact, she may not even be on this earth yet! The unknowns can drive us a bit crazy if we dwell on them too much as what we fill our mind with will consume our lives. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely or commendable. Well…the only One I can think of Who covers every single one of those attributes is my amazing, loving Savior. So, we will choose to think on HIM more this year rather than on our circumstances. I love the promise of Philippians 4:9 when we think on these things: “the God of peace will be with you.” PEACE!

Will you wait and trust with us?

Here is what we are praying about right now:

  • Patience as we wait and drawing closer to God in the waiting process
  • A referral to match us with our daughter
  • Protection for our daughter and her birth family
  • Fundraising efforts (another grant application is being submitted by the end of this month)
